Its easy to declare your major in Biology!
If you have 28 credits on your University of Mary Washington transcript, you can declare your major in Biology.
To declare the major, simply go to Dr. Wieland's office (The Department Chair). He will give you two cards to fill out. One is a green MAJOR DECLARATION CARD, the other is a blue MAJOR'S INFORMATION CARD. You can fill them out right in his office, hand them back to him, and that's it!
You can do this anytime as long as you have completed the required number of credits (28). If you do it before the announced deadline, which comes around every semester, you will be considered a major by the next course registration period. If you miss the deadline, then you will not be considered a major until the following semester.
From the UMW Dictionary of Academic Regulations (Fredericksburg Campus):
A B.A./B.S. student who has successfully completed 28 credits or more is eligible to declare a major by submitting the Major Information Card (blue card) and the Major Declaration Card (green card) to the chairperson of the chosen department. These major declaration cards are available in the Office of Academic Services. After the department has accepted the student as a major, the department chairperson assigns a major advisor to the student and signs the Major Declaration Card. The department chairperson then sends the approved green card to the Office of Academic Services, notifies the student of his or her acceptance, and sends the student an outline of the major program requirements. The major is not considered official until the Major Declaration Card (green card) is on file in the Office of Academic Services. Each semester, the Office of Academic Services sets a major declaration deadline for the semester.
In most situations, a B.L.S. student should declare a major only after he or she has completed two semesters of enrollment in UMW classes in good standing; however, students who transfer in a high credit total and whose remaining course work will be mainly or exclusively in the major are encouraged to declare a major immediately. The eligible B.L.S. student declares a major officially by submitting the Major Information Card (orange card) and the Major Declaration Card (yellow card) to the chairperson of the academic department. Both the cards and assistance with the process are available in the B.L.S. Office.
